# What is the difference between Residential and ISP proxies?

## Residential proxies

Residential proxies are IP addresses assigned to real residential devices by internet service providers.

They are commonly used when users want IPs that look more like regular user traffic.

Use cases listed in this knowledge base include:

* web scraping
* data mining
* ad verification
* geo-restricted access

## ISP (static) proxies

ISP proxies are provided by an internet service provider and are often used for browsing and other proxy-based internet activity.

The existing FAQ describes ISP proxies as generally reliable, but it also notes they may:

* offer less anonymity than some other proxy types
* include usage restrictions or bandwidth limits
